Portable Sat-Nav Reviews And News
We take a look at portable satellite system reviews and news by the media and other authoritative resources.
The new TomTom One v.3 aka 3RD Edition TomTom have brought out a new version of the highly popular and best selling TomTom One. The new version is called the TomTom One 3RD Edition or V3 as it is also known by. The big difference between the V2 and the V3 is the newer version don't take an SD card any more. The regional model has 512Mb of internal memory and the European version has a full 1Gb of memory. The are reasonably priced too, which is why I personally would go for the larger version because if you get the regional version with less memory you will be struggling later on if you want to get other maps. The both come with TomTom's Map Share which means the maps can be edited.
TomTom's WebFleet and the new TomTom GO 715 TomTom have developed a new SatNav device and service for commercial users - The TomTom GO 715 and WebFleet. Imagine you have a fleet of vehicles on the road, sales reps perhaps, and you want to know where they are at any given time. With each car fitted with a TomTom GO 715, you can track them via TomTom's WebFleet software (Internet connection required). Not only can you track them, you can send each one text messages, such as go here and do this etc. all from your computer. For more information visit > TomTom Work
The Gadget Show - Channel 5 Channel 5's The Gadget Show tested 3 top portable satellite navigation systems. The three were TomTom Go 910, the Garmin Nuvi 660 and the Navman N40i. You can find what we at Best Sat Nav have to say about two of those devices by navigating to them using the menu on the left, but this is what The Gadget Show had to say about them: "Before we even started filming we spent two weeks trialing out some of the best sat navs on the market that we could use both on the desk and on a mobile phone from all different price ranges. We drove for literally hundreds of miles, directed by many different voices, doing u-turns, repeating journeys over and over and double checking the beeping effectiveness of the safety camera warnings. Afterwards we chose just three devices to go through to our on-screen testing.
The devices were: The Tom Tom Go 910 - the top of the Tom Tom range which gives street names rather than just saying left or right. The Garmin Nuvi 660 - Tom Tom's big rival in the sat nav market that dominates America. This also gives street names and we were impressed with its sleek design. And lastly the Navman N40i. A cheaper model that doesn't give street names but has some useful quick find buttons on the side which help you locate petrol stations and parking really quickly."
