Trip To Wales With My TomTom
By Brian F.
The trip to Wales wasn't to test out my TomTom One, I was going for a weekend break sightseeing and hill walking.
I have to say how happy I was with the performance of my TomTom One when I was in Wales for a long weekend break recently. Admittedly getting to Wales wasn't a problem, I didn't really need the TomTom to guide me there, but once there the TomTom was great. I was staying in a B&B near Capel Curig, Betws-y-coed in Snowdonia. Two cars set off from Edinburgh for the 300 mile trip. For most of the way I was in front, until we stopped at a Service station off the M56 near Chester. When we left I let my friend take the lead as he has been to Capel Curig before. I quite happily followed and not once did the TomTom One disagree with my friends directions.
The fun part for me was when we got to LLanrwst. My friend was a bit in front and because of the windy roads I had lost sight of him. It turned out that he followed the major roads to Betws-y-coed and then on towards Capel Curig. My TomTom suggested I turn right over a bridge - a very narrow bridge, and down what looked to be a B road. I did as it suggested and it got me to the car park at my B&B a good few minutes before my friend. Not only did I get there first, I also managed to get the last parking space! Ha ha.
On the first full day there, some of us did some serious scrambling up Tryfan with ropes. Personally I am more into rambling so I let them get on with it and did a bit of driving around. I has stored a few locations into the TomTom first to guide me back to pick-up points and the B&B. It was excellent, just driving around, visiting small towns, taking in the Welsh countryside and visiting the odd castle, knowing that I couldn't get lost. All I had to do to get back was tap my touch screen and select Navigate To.
I had a great weekend in Wales, and would love to come back again. I've already conquered Snowdon a few years earlier when we completed the National 24 Hour 3 Peak Challenge. The next time, I'll get the train up.
