05 November - The Town Centre
I had to take a trip through Edinburgh so I took my new TomTom One with me. I set the destination by pointing to the place on the map (which can be zoomed in and out). Again, I would have just headed for the City Bypass and zoomed my way there, but the TomTom chose a more direct, and quicker route. What would have been a 12 mile trip was only 6 miles and would have took about the same time I recon. I decide to follow the TomTom's instructions and was quite happy with the rout it took. The only flaw, but I think it was a big flaw was when I got into the town centre, where it suggested that I turned left down a road ahead that had a "No Left Turn" sign. Then on the return journey, again it wanted me to go the opposite way up the same road, but it was One Way. However I know the layout of the roads around that part of town so I easily adjusted my route, and the TomTom re-calculated the route when ever I didn't follow it's instructions. In conclusion, I was mostly happy with the saving in petrol and miles, but come to the conclusion that a Sat Nav would be useless in the middle of a city that had a lot of one way streets.
06 November - Dangerous Driving
I have to admit that having the TomTom stuck to my windscreen whenever I go out in the car is becoming a bit of a joke now. Like I said earlier, I don't really need one, but I couldn't resist getting one. Today just after I set off, I wanted to change some of the preferences; It might have been changing the screen colours from night mode to daytime (which is another cool function), and even though I had slowed right down (I was not on a main road), I wandered over to the other side of the road. They can be very distracting and dangerous - like trying to write a text whilst driving. if you need to change something on your Sat Nav, pull over and stop.
