03 November - The Run to Work and Back

Ok, not a very title for today but I was very interested in the route my new TomTom would suggest to go to my work which is near the South Gyle and involves a trip on the bypass. I chose the fastest route option. As predicted it lead me to the bypass but by a slightly different way than I would normally go. I ignored the TomTom and went my usual way, avoiding the traffic calming measures to save my suspension. Later, on the way home I opted for the shortest route home. It was told my usual 20 minute journey would take 35 minutes. I followed the instructions: "At the end of the road, turn left." "After 300 yards turn right, then take the second left.". The journey was ok, only taking 22 minutes, but when I got near to home, it was taking me down streets that I wouldn't normally go down, and again they were full of traffic calming measures. Again, it's just a computer working out the shortest route not the best. And sometimes the fastest is not the best either.

04 November - Safety Cameras

Connected my TomTom to the computer and installed the CD rom. I connected with TomTom Home and had a look around. I made a backup of my TomTom. It must be a backup of the SD card which holds the map info, voices and points of interest etc. I decided to download the safety (speed) cameras - nearly 40 Euros for one years subscription. Again, having a drive around later on, I discovered that not all of the speed cameras there. There is one on Dalry Road that isn't in the TomTom database. This camera has been there since they were first introduced into Edinburgh, and it's not in my TomTom. Unbelievable!
