My Sat Nav Diary
From: Brian Foster, Edinburgh
Hi, My name is Brian Foster and over the next week I will keep you posted on how I get on with my new TomTom One portable Sat Nav.
My Introduction to Satellite Navigation
I had been thinking about buying a Sat Nav for some time. The thing that kept putting me off buying one for my car was - I really didn't need one, but I'm a gadget fan, so the urge was there.
One day, I was offered a loan of a friends Sat Nav as I was heading out to Glasgow Airport to pick someone up. I already knew where the airport was as I had been there many times before, but I didn't want to pass up the chance of getting a shot of one. The device was a TomTom One. The older original style.
So I stuck the TomTom to my windshield, set it to "Navigate To" Glasgow Airport, which was already added as a favourite. The first thing I noticed was the information the TomTom provided. It told me how far I had to go and how long it would take me to get there. I set off. The female voice for very clear and pleasant to listen to. Another thing I noticed later on was at faster speeds, the volume got louder. The route the TomTom One chose to get me onto the City Bypass was slightly different than the one I would have gone. It suggested that I turn up a road which was heavy with traffic calming measures, but nevertheless I followed the directions as per instructed. Sat Navs don't know what roads are full of speed bumps.
That was my first experience with a portable Sat Nav system, but it was enough to tip the scales. The next day, I ordered one. I settled for the TomTom One. The new thinner and nicer looking one, also known as the TomTom One V2.
